Education - Excursion Information

Parking For Buses
Ample parking is available for buses in Wendouree Parade near the North Gardens Toilets and Lake Pavilion Restaurant. Parking is also available in Windmill Drive near the Adventure Playground.

Toilets
Toilets are located at either end of the Gardens facing Wendouree Parade.

Prior to the Tour
Divide into groups, assign a supervising adult to each group and ensure that the group is introduced to the leader. One adult for every 8 primary students is an ideal ratio.

Starting the Tour
It is advisable to have groups starting at different stations to avoid delays and congestion. Since the Education Trail is a loop, it is suggested that groups could start at the Morey Gates entrance, the Fernery, The Robert Clark Centre and the Prime Ministers Avenue.

Buses

Play Lunches and Lunches
See the receptionist at The Conservatory for suitable storage of lunches. They will be stored either in The Robert Clark Centre kitchen or in the refreshments servery area in The Conservatory. Lunches should be brought in labelled tubs or baskets, which are covered with a waterproof sheet.
A number of shelters are available on the Lake foreshore for lunches, or you may chose to use one of the many lawn areas with shade trees.

Rubbish
Bins are provided throughout the Botanical Gardens precinct. If unsure or you wish to recycle drink containers, ask the Gardens staff.

Clothing
Ballarat's climate is renowned for its changeable nature, and conditions can be very hot or cold depending on wind from Lake Wendouree.
Dress for the weather accordingly. In cold weather, waterproof shoes and jackets with hoods are essential. In warmer weather, sunscreen, hats, water bottles and insect repellent are a good idea.

Collecting
Children can gather leaves and seedpods from the ground, however picking live flowers or other vegetation is not allowed. Make sure you emphasise to students the importance of staying off garden beds. This way damage to foliage, compaction of soil and root damage will be avoided.

Ball Games
Balls, Frisbees and other games equipment can be used on the Lake Foreshore Reserve, North Gardens and South Gardens.
