House Sparrow (Passer domesticus)was introduced to Ballarat from England on 9 July 1864 when a dozen were released in Sturt Street. In 1865 a further 28 were released in the Ballarat Botanical Gardens. Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos)was introduced from England in the 1860s. This duck interbreeds with the native Pacific Black Duck.

Reed Warbler

The song of the Clamorous Reed-Warbler (Acrocephalus stentoreus) is one of the most beautiful sounds of spring in Fairyland. It is a small brown bird which stays well hidden.
