The Native Water-rat has dark brown fur, partly webbed back feet and a white tip to its tail. There are estimated to be about 100 scattered around the shore but mostly they can be seen in Fairyland, especially at dawn and dusk, swimming between the islands. They feed on small fish, yabbies, baby birds and aquatic insects. Sometimes they are killed on the road in Fairyland.

The Common Brushtail Possum is fairly common and it is easy to find their scats on the lakeside paths. They live mainly in the hollows of poplars, elms and willows and are plant eaters. All these mammals are nocturnal. Sometimes at night the large eyes of a Brushtail will shine in the headlights of cars driving around the lake.

The Ring-tail Possum builds a large bulky nest of twigs, strips of barks, creepers, leaves and grass. They have several of these 'dreys' and periodically move from one to another. With their strong claws, sharp teeth and prehensile tail they regularly visit nearby gardens to feast on flowers and fruit.
