Part of 'The Fountain and Steamboat Houses' - Niven Lithograph 1878
The Original Goldfields Water Supply
The crown shaped scoria rockery at the south-east corner of the Lake was built in 1879, over the original 1858 filter beds, to mark the location of Ballarat's first water supply. Exotic plantings of Cordylines, Yuccas and Aloes make the rockery a distinctive feature of the Lake especially when photographed against the setting sun.
Patrons enjoy the late afternoon sunshine at
The Go Fish Cafe on the corner of Wendouree Parade and Webster Street.
