Weed Cutting
Weed cutting is a perennial problem but the biological health of Lake Wendouree can be attributed to the native lakeweed (water-milfoil and ribbon weed) which reduces the effects of harmful urban sediments which are flushed into the Lake after heavy rain. However to prevent the Lake from reverting to a swamp and to cater for a wide range of recreational water sports, a seasonal weed cutting regime is necessary. The weed cutting starts in August and ends in March according to a predetermined plan which also includes responding to requests from the Aquatic Association. Keeping the rowing course clear is the main priority.
