Precinct 8 - Windmill Drive

Windmill Drive is named from the windmill which once provided the power to the pumphouse for The Ballarat Trout Hatchery which is across the road through the Gardens. With the King Edward Pavilion, a bandstand and barbeque facilities it is a picnic area. Children love to play along the shady gully and on the playgrounds. The main one is the Ballarat Community Adventure Playground.
Directly opposite is the The Australian Ex-Prisoners of War Memorial
Ballarat's Ice Cream Man operates from a van in this area and across Wendouree Parade is Ballarat Vintage Tramway Museum.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DNRE) warn people against feeding the swans and other birds. Bread is not part of their natural diet and some swans become aggressive in expectation of food. Although the lake water is clean there is some contamination in the shallows where large numbers of birds congregate.
