".......Cruzin is a bit like a movie studio:
step inside, and you are in the middle of a
country-town streetscape meticulously crafted
from authentic1950s and '60s memorabilia. Past
the old corner store is your suite, and once
inside, it is difficult to leave.
Cruzin is rated 4½ stars by the RACV, and it
deserves it for the quality of its mainly period
fittings, extras that beat many city hotels, and
its spotless presentation.
Curios and period
furniture are everywhere - this is not a place
for children and, obviously, also not ideal for
someone with little interest in the chosen era.
But Cruzin wisely avoids pushing the time-trip
too far, and provides a modern, comfortable
queen-size bed and other here-and-now amenities.
A return veranda overlooks a pleasant rather
than spectacular scene, and leads down to a
private yard.
The fact that Cruzin
offers only one suite means the experience can
be shared by only two adults - but for them, it
can be a genuine hideaway. We had intended to
check in and spend the day in and around
Ballarat. Once inside, however, we decided to
lie back and soak it up." MALCOLM MAIDEN
