In the rolling hill country east of Ballarat lies Lal Lal Estate, the home of the Fisken family for over a century. Now the Fiskens invite you to share a day with them on this 5000 acre sheep and cattle station.

Our traditional Australian welcome begins with morning tea on the wide cool verandah infiskhorse.jpg (17977 bytes) summer, or beside a warm log fire in the cooler months.

Experience the daily farm work.

Hear the click of the shears, crack of the stockwhip and the bark of the kelpie dog as they muster the sheep.

fisktable.jpg (11212 bytes)Enjoy the beautiful rambling gardens and wander along a stone path to the granite stables built in 1858. This is where Archibald Fisken housed Akbar, a great thoroughbred on whom he outrode the bushranger, Captain Starlight.

On a walk beside the lake you will see koalas in the eucalyptus trees and perhaps glimpse a wedgetail eagle soaring overhead.

Archibald Fisken first dammed the waters of the Lal Lal stream infiskold.jpg (4639 bytes) 1847, creating what is today a beautiful lake alive with black swans and waterfowl.

Six generations of the pioneer Fisken family have lived and worked here. Through bushfire, drought, and hardship the family tradition lives on.

Because Lal Lal Estate is a working property, there will be times when the flock shearing (team of 4 shearers plus shed hands) will be in progress. It may also be possible to observe cattle being worked in the cattle yards, or sheep being worked in the yards as part of our normal routine.
