The Star Hotel Bar and Café, known as the North Star Hotel for many
years, was built in 1857, and situated in an area known as Soldiers
Hill, Ballarat North. This was the location of the soldiers camp
when
they were involved in the Eureka uprising 3 years earlier in
1854. It is one of a few (and possibly the earliest) surviving and
predominantly externally intact 1850’s hotels still licensed and
operating in Ballarat. The Hotel is an important landmark in the historic Lydiard Street
Nth streetscape
